Admission Procedure and Requirements


 

As the region's first Tri-County "Commuter" school.

Ada Merritt K-8 Center is open to Kindergarten through eighth grade  students from Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties.

All eligible applicants have now been entered in the random selection process. Letters will  be mailed on March 14, 2014. Parents of accepted students must register their child before the April 4, 2014 deadline.

Registration Documents for all students who have been accepted into the program
Please print* and complete the documents listed below:

- Disclosure at Time of Registration
- Student Data Card
- Directory Information Form
Bring these completed documents to the main office to register your child prior to April 4, 2014.
*You may also pick up a registration packet in the school's main office prior to registration.

Application-English Kindergarten Applicants: Requirements Application-Spanish
  • - Application (Mandatory, sent directly to M-DCPS or completed online before January 15, 2014)
    - Verification of siblings attending Ada Merritt K-8 Center in older grades

    - All Kindergarten applications are entered into the random selection.

 

 
First Grade Applicants: Requirements

 

  • - Application (Mandatory, sent directly to M-DCPS or completed online before January 15, 2014)

    - Teacher Recommendation Form *(Mandatory, sent to school directly)
    - Verification of siblings attending Ada Merritt K-8 Center in older grades

    - All eligible First Grade applications are entered into the random selection.

 

 
2nd-8th Grade Applicants: Requirements  

- Application (Mandatory, sent directly to M-DCPS or completed online before January 15, 2014)

- Teacher Recommendation Form *(Mandatory, sent to school directly)

- Recent Report Card (Mandatory for all students)
- Interview and Language Test (Mandatory for all grade 1-8 applicants): 
it is the parent's  responsibility to call the school and make an appointment for an interview
. Students who do not complete the interview part of the application will be ineligible for the program
- A stamped envelope and all other required documents must be sent to

- Application deadline : January 15, 2014.

(Grade 2-8 students will be tested in the language they are applying to. They must demonstrate a language level commensurate with that of other students in the program.)


*The Recommendation Form is for Ada Merritt K-8 Center only.

 

 
Selection Process  

-  To be eligible, candidates must:
- have submitted an application by the stated deadline
- have a 2.5 average in core academics classes

     - Minimum grade of "C" in conduct

     - all effort grades in core academics classes must be a "2" or higher
- have no more than 10 unexcused absences for the previous year
- have a teacher recommendation
- receive a passing grade on the Language Test and Interview
 

- Applicants who do not qualify will be informed by letter (make sure the address in M-DCPS Data base is correct)

 

- All eligible applicants are entered in  a data base for random selection
- Random selection process: February, 2014
- Notification period: March, 2014
- Response to notification due: April, 2014
- Students on the Wait List will be called as seats open up in the order of the random selection.

 

 





Interested candidates need to complete an application and submit it to Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) before the January 15, 2014 deadline. Applications may be completed and submitted on line through the Parent Portal of M-DCPS.
All applicants to grades one through eight need to contact the school and make an appointment for an interview.
