Ada Merritt Families:

We hope you are having a fabulous summer and are excited to come back to school rested and energized.  Welcome to the first class of Middle School students!  And welcome to all the new families and teachers, Ada Merritt K-8 Center is growing by leaps and bounds. 

The Parents Teacher Association of Ada Merritt K-8 Center has achieved many accomplishments in the very active last four years.  We host yearly events for the children and their families to enhance the learning and culture in our small community.  Events such as the International Food Festival with over 800 participants and food booths representing over 13 countries/regions.  This year’s Festival will celebrate the Street Festivals from around the world including Spain, Brazil, The Caribbean and South America.  In addition we also fund and host a Book Fair, Earth Day, Festa Junina, Black History performance, Hispanic Heritage Week, etc.  For parents only, our Gala this year will celebrate the 85^th Anniversary of Ada Merritt with a Brazilian theme, this will be a great one!

Funded learning and reading programs include the Accelerated Reader Program, the Butterfly Garden and the new Strings Music Program .  The afterschool program was expanded last year to include a great soccer program, this year we hope to bring a high quality afterschool music program to enhance the Ada Merritt music program.

We have two new endeavors, we are launching our High School Advisory Board to seek out a location and funding for a High School Program for Ada Merritt curriculum.  We met with School Board Chairman Agustin Barrera and he has set the wheels in motion to start the process.  Our first Advisory Board member to agree to serve is Dr. Robert McCabe, founder of Miami Dade College.  We look forward to strong parental participation for this endeavor. Secondly,  as many of you know, we have more Scientists and Clinicians parents at Ada Merritt than probably any other school.  Dr.  Carlos Moraes and Dr. Fulvia Verde have agreed to Chair an PTA Scientist Committee to integrate more scientific interaction at our events and our curriculum.

Please don’t forget to order your school uniforms, please use the attached form and instructions.  The PTA receives donations from the sale of uniforms.
